July 22, 2020—PlanPlus Global, a Morningstar company, announced the winners of the 2020 Canadian Financial Planning Awards competition, which recognizes excellence in the financial planning profession. The competition was launched in 2013 to help increase awareness and understanding of the important role played by financial planners in Canada. The competition is open to advisors across Canada who hold a recognized professional designation and are members in good standing of a financial planning association or other professional body.
“The awards were designed to spotlight comprehensive financial plans, generated for real Canadian families, that solved complex problems and provide unequivocal value,” said Shawn Brayman, former-CEO of PlanPlus Global and now Director of Financial Planning Methodology at Morningstar. “These plans are generated by financial planners and the winning plans clearly demonstrated professional advice in the client’s best interest and meeting all of the ethical and practice guidelines of the profession. Today’s COVID environment highlights even more how market turmoil and economic uncertainty can impact all Canadians, and the value of great advice.”
The winner of the 2020 Canada Awards Financial Planning competition is Dylan Wilson of HollisWealth, Toronto, Ontario.
“Participating in the PlanPlus Global Canada Financial Planning Awards has been a rewarding experience”, said winner Dylan Wilson. “When the opportunity to have a Financial Plan of mine anonymously critiqued by a panel of industry veterans, I jumped on it. I’m continuously looking to improve my planning process and will be using the experience to further develop my process for years to come.”
Yvonne Martin-Morrison of Raymond James, Calgary Alberta was named First Runner Up. Yvonne is a second time winner, previously named as First Runner Up in 2019.
“It’s a terrific honour that some of the best planners in the world awarded me First Runner Up this year in the 2020 Financial Planning Awards Competition”, said Yvonne Martin-Morrison. “Not only does the competition bring out the best in our planning efforts and urge us onward to a higher level of planning quality, it highlights the tremendous value in planners coming together to share best practices and challenge one another in friendly competition. We can all be better because of this awards experience and return to serving our clients in more meaningful and practical ways.”.
Previously the awards would be presented at the CIFPs Conference, however, due to the Covid-19 situation the awards will be sent out directly to the winners.
