We are all in this together
We recognize this can be a stressful time for many people and we wish you and your family both health and safety as we all learn to cope with difficulties that none of us could foresee. In recent weeks, we’ve seen the human and economic effects of COVID-19, but we’ve also seen the best of each other.
We see it in doctors, nurses, other health care providers, emergency workers, law enforcement officers and so many others who are on the front lines helping people directly affected by this situation. We see it in grocery store clerks, sanitation workers and good neighbors, who are helping to keep us all moving forward. Thank you to everyone for doing their part to get us through this challenging time.
Our principal concern at PlanPlus Global, of course, is with the human impact of the pandemic, which could be health related but equally, could be financial or the anxiety created from these factors. Our company purpose has always been to elevate the availability and value of financial advice throughout the world and that has never been more important than at this pivotal time. We have clients in over 35 countries where COVID-19 has already had a serious impact.
We believe the financial advice community is particularly important as they often serve as emotional pillars of strength to help clients avoid hasty and potentially irrational actions in times of uncertainty, such as we are experiencing right now.
As you may be aware, the impact for the team at PlanPlus Global is not only what is happening in the world around us, but effective this week we are now a part of the Morningstar group of companies, making this my last message to you as the CEO of PlanPlus Global.
Our team will continue to work with Mike Barad, Head of Financial Planning Software at Morningstar to support you and empower you, as you in turn support the community around you.
The timing for this change could not have been better, combining the additional resources and thought leaders at Morningstar with the past 30 years of ground-breaking development from PlanPlus and FinaMetrica.
We are doing our part to help “flatten the curve”— encouraging and facilitating employees to work at home, cancelling all corporate travel, using video technology to replace in-person meetings, postponing non-essential projects in favor of supporting our customers’ needs and encouraging total commitment to government and health experts guidelines, and instructions.
International experience demonstrates that “social distancing” is the only effective method for reducing spread. While this will have significant economic impact on the global business community in the short term, it is critical to weathering this storm and will hasten the recovery. However, these measures will only be effective if we all step up and do our part to protect our communities’ health and welfare.
I am reminded of the wisdom of Marie Curie, the first woman to win a Nobel Prize who wrote: “Nothing in life is to be feared; it is only to be understood. Now is the time to understand more so that we may fear less.”
Although COVID-19 has turned our world upside down, we can step back and not get caught up in fear, stay calm, use this time for personal growth, and plan a bright new future when the pandemic is over.
